(workshop)
Date and time: Thursday, 30th of May, at 9:00
Embroidery is a decoration made with a sewing needle and thread onto fabric or leather. In the past, this skill was taught to little girls in school, at home or by other embroiderers since it was often a social activity. Cross-stitch embroidery is a particularity of the Gorenjska region. The “embroidery from the Gorenjska region” often displayed the national and regional affiliation of the embroiderer, which is particularly clear from the preserved specimens from the first half of the 19th century: blue and red thread, carnation motifs, and cross-stitching technique.
COURSE OF THE WORKSHOP:
The workshop will consist of a theoretical explanation of the cross-stitching technique and a presentation of historical facts, whereupon we will create a modern piece of jewellery in the traditional textile technique. We will learn how to embroider traditional patterns from the Gorenjska region. The jewellery you will create will serve as a useful memory of Slovenia.
