The Planica Nordic Centre is a modern centre for ski jumping and cross-country skiing in a valley below Ponce situated approximately 2km to the west of Rateče. Planica is most famous for its ski jumping world cup: the first event took place on 4 February 1934. At this very site, numerous ski jumpers practised their skills, and it also saw a lot of world records being set. In 1936, the world-famous ski jumper Sepp Bradl went down in the annals of history as the first ski jumper to pass the magical mark of 100 metres. Throughout the year, ski jumpers from all over the world can train in Planica. For recreational athletes, the Nordic Centre also offers a snow tunnel where one can indulge in recreational or professional cross-country skiing throughout the year. Adrenaline junkies have also been taken care of: they can take a zip-line tour from the world-famous Planica ski flying hill, or see what it would be like if they could fly in the wind tunnel. Furthermore, conference halls, a museum, and a coffee shop with a restaurant are also available to guests.
COURSE OF THE EXCURSION:
Organised transport will take us from Kranjska Gora to Planica where we will first have a guided tour of the museum displaying the history of Planica and of ski jumping. We will also see the observation deck and the snow tunnel, head up to the ski flying hill with a cable car and finish the excursion with a mini-feast of “štruklji” (rolls made out of dough with various types of fillings) prepared by our chefs. We recommend you wear sports shoes and a windbreaker.
*IN CASE OF RAIN, THE CABLE CAR RIDE WILL NOT TAKE PLACE
Length of the excursion: 2.5 hours – 3 hours
Price: EUR 22 per person
